Common sense and the age profile of our members and all the guidelines are preventing us from formally introducing club rides for the present. The Committee are keeping the position regarding re-starting official rides under constant review and will update members when it is safe to resume. However, there is no reason not to get out on your bike. There are several groups who have already put together informal rides, mostly using WhatsApp.

If you are happy to ride alone then carry on doing so. If you crave some company, why not post a blog suggesting a ride or asking who would like to join you up to a maximum of six of course. It does not have to be on a Wednesday or long or fast. Just a group of likeminded cyclists.

Wear your club kit with pride (as long as you are not breaking any guidelines). Try to be as self-sufficient as possible – it is best to do your own running repairs. Carry a mask in case you have to go into a shop or travel on public transport. Meeting points may be difficult as well as coffee stops. This needs some careful planning.

All of these rides will not be sponsored by the club so as far as insurance goes you must feel comfortable with the level of insurance that you carry personally

Keep cycling, keep fit. It is especially important at our age to maintain a level of fitness. It is really hard to regain fitness once you lose it. Inevitably some members will get the dreaded COVID-19, but hopefully our fitness levels will mean that we are not the serious cases.

We are a very friendly mid-week social cycling club based in SE London/West Kent. We ride every Wednesday, meeting at about 10.30am for elevenses at one of our five meeting venues organised on a rota basis. Most members ride to the elevenses meet.

The club rides depart at 11am and we currently run five groups. All group rides aim to arrive at their pre-arranged pub destinations for lunch before 1pm. The pubs we visit are selected for being both cyclist friendly and providing a good value lunch menu.

With five groups, we cater for a broad range of fitness levels, including the ride home, it is not unusual for our fitter members to have covered distances of 50 to 60 miles, others might travel only 15 miles. Run lists including meeting venue and pub destination details are published on this website. Our current membership is approx 140 with up to 70 riders (depending on the weather) turning out for each ride. As a mid-week club, members are usually retired, semi-retired or WFH.

A smaller group of our fitter riders also meet on Saturdays.

In addition to our weekly rides, there are group holidays in the UK and Europe.  In 2019 a group of 34 members went to Dordrecht in Holland and had a great time; a similar trip is being planned for 2020. Also in 2020 another group is hoping to ride across France; from the channel to the med .
